Job Description:Thomas Miller, an associate professor in the University of South Florida's College of Education, has been named the new interim vice president for student affairs, taking over for Denita "Dee" Siscoe, who recently accepted a position at Missouri State University.
Miller will assume his new position June 10.
Miller joined the University of South Florida in 2001 as Dean of Students and Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and currently holds the position of Associate Professor in the College of Education.
"We are delighted to have attracted someone with Dr. Miller's experience and national reputation to provide leadership during this important period of transition," said USF Provost Ralph Wilcox. "The Office of Student Affairs works in almost every corner of campus to ensure that we provide all students with a positive experience and the developmental resources to optimize their future success."
Miller is the recent recipient of the Outstanding Contribution to Student Affairs through Teaching award given by Region III of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA), the leading association for the advancement, health, and sustainability of the student affairs profession.
"Student Affairs will be in great hands with Dr. Miller," said Siscoe, who will be vice president of student affairs at Missouri State, her undergraduate alma mater. "Not only does Tom have a strong background and expertise in student affairs, he is also a warm, caring, and student-centered professional who is truly passionate about working with and for students."
"I'm grateful to the Provost for his confidence in me and thankful to Dr. Dee Siscoe who has built a very strong foundation in Student Affairs," said Miller.
In her time as Interim Vice President Siscoe made a positive impact on the university. While implementing recommendations of the Student Affairs Transition Team that she co-chaired with Vice Provost Kofi Glover, she successfully streamlined Student Affairs from six administrative units to four, and recruited an Assistant Vice President and Dean of Students together with an Assistant Vice President for Wellness.
"We are very grateful to Dr. Siscoe for her leadership and wish her well in her new role. She has had a positive impact on our university during the past year," said Wilcox. "I see a bright future for Student Affairs at USF as it continues its strategic commitment to Student Success."
Miller will continue to steer the Office of Student Affairs on the successful path that Siscoe has helped develop. "I am happy to be returning to my roots in student affairs and to be of service to my university," said Miller.
A graduate of Muhlenberg College, Miller received a bachelor's degree in natural science. He went on to earn a Master's of Education degree in college student personnel and a Doctorate of Education in higher education from Indiana University.
Previously, Miller served as Vice President for Student Affairs at Eckerd College and Canisius College.
USF will soon launch a national search for a new Vice President for Student Affairs, chaired by Dr. Paul Dosal, Vice Provost for Student Success.
