History
Mission Statement
We, The Student Government Association of Elmhurst College, always working to put students first, serve as representatives and the collective voice of the entire student body. As tireless advocates of the students, we strive to listen carefully, deliberate thoughtfully, and act accordingly in the best interests of all students of Elmhurst College. We move forward with respect for the past, diligence in the present, and hope for the future of our institution.
Approved by the Student Government Association in April, 2002
The Student Government Association of Elmhurst College will continue to grow in breadth and focus, building on out foundation of good representative government. We look forward to a greater presence on campus as we grow in professionalism, student advocacy, information sharing and servant leaders here at Elmhurst College. As we advance in student interest and awareness, we strive to become more visible on campus, a integral component on the College's shared governance system, clearly student centered, and always open and accessible to students, faculty, and staff.
Approved by the Student Government Association in April, 2002
The Student Government Association has the responsibility and the authority to:
a) Serve as an adviser and make recommendations
to the President of the College on all matters affecting student welfare.
b) Receive student input, study, discuss and make recommendations regarding
student welfare to the appropriate councils and committees.
c) Receive and respond to recommendations from councils and committees.
d) Recognize, set criteria for recognition and sanction student organizations.
e) Administer selection procedures for all councils, committees and task forces
on which students serve as representatives.
f) Create and administer the annual budget of the Student Activity Fund.
g) Approve the organizational structure of student managed programming board,
newspaper, yearbook, literary magazine, and radio station, and to approve the
selection process of the leadership of the said organizations.
h) Approve expenditures from the Student Government Contingency and Technology
and Equipment Funds.
i) Determine and administer the selection process of student representatives to
the Student Affairs Council of the Illinois Board of Higher Education.
j) Perform other functions as delegated to it by the President of the College
and all other functions necessary and proper to carry into execution the above
powers and all other powers vested in the Association by this Constitution.
