Black Student Involvement: Student Government Associations and Developmental Outcomes at Historically Black Colleges and Universities
However, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), were uniquely created to serve underrepresented populations and these institutions have a proven track record of producing scholars, researchers, and world leaders. As such this literature review provides a conceptual framework for examining the impact of student government association (SGA) leadership experiences on students’ personal development at (HBCUs).

It examines the origins and applications of student involvement theory while identifying the outcomes of student involvement throughout college campuses. It also provides a brief historical perspective on SGA, reviews the outcomes associated with students’ involvement in SGA, and discusses literature on students’ involvement and outcomes at HBCUs.
